Nascut pe 4 decembrie 1949, in Los Angeles, el este fiul bince cunoscutului Lloyd Bridges, o mare vedeta TV. Precum a afirmat si Jeff, el a copilarit alaturi de fratele sau in culisele marilor scene ale Holywoodului. Jeff a debutat alaturi de fratele sau, intr-un film in care mama lor avea un rol principal, "The Company She Keeps"(1951). Cei doi frati au mai aparut ocazional in serialul tatalui sau,"Sea Hunt"(1958). In varsta de 14 ani, Jeff a participat alaturi de tatal sau in turnel de promovare a productiei "Anniversay Waltz". In anii urmatori tanarul Jeff a avut multe probleme q droguri si marijuana, la un momendat parintii lui trebuind sa intervina. Datorita insistentelor parintilor sai, el a fost trimis la dezintoxicare, iar dupa ce a fost externat Jeff a inceput sa se concentreze asupra carierei sale de tanar actor, el participand in filmele "Silent Night, Lonely Night"(1969), "The Yin and the Yang of Mr. Go"(1970), "Halls of Anger"(1970). Filmul ce l-a ajutat cel mai mult in cariera a venit doar un an mai tarziu, "The Last Picture Show". In afara de "The Last Picture Show", Jeff Bridges a mai aparut in alte 3 filme ce l-au adus aproape de oscar: "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot"(1975), "Starman"(1985) si "The Contender"(2001).
