Alexander Rae "Alec" Baldwin al III-lea s-a nascut la data de 3 Aprilie 1958 si este un actor american nominalizat la premiul Oscar si castigator al premiilor Emmy si Globul de Aur. Este cel mai in varsta si cel mai cunoscut dintre fratii Baldwin, jucand in numeroase filme si productii pentru televiziune. Este de asemenea cunoscut pentru faptul ca a fost, de mai multe ori, gazda emisiunii Saturday Night Live. In prezent
joaca rolul lui Jack Donaghy in serialul de comedie 30 Rock, difuzat de canalul NBC. Baldwin s-a nascut in Massapequa, New York, fiind fiul lui Carolyn Newcomb (nascuta Martineau) si al lui Alexander Rae Baldwin Jr., un profesor de istorie de liceu si antrenorul unei echipe de fotbal. Baldwin a fost crescut intr-o familie de catolici cu origini irlandeze si franceze. A urmat liceul Alfred G. Berner din Massapequa, Long Island si a jucat in echipa de fotbal pregatita de antrenorul Bob Reifsnyder. Baldwin a lucrat ca ospatar in celebrul club new-yorkez Studio 54. A urmat cursurile Universitatii George Washington intre anii 1976 - 1979, unde i se spunea "Alex". Dupa ce a pierdut alegerile pentru a deveni presedintele comitetului studentesc, s-a transferat la Universitatea New York si a studiat actoria la Institutul de Teatru Lee Strasberg, la clasa profesorilor Elaine Aiken si Geoffrey Horne. S-a intors apoi la Universitatea New York in anul 1994 si a absolvit in acelasi an. Ceilalti frati ai sai, Daniel, William si Stephen l-au urmat si au devenit si ei actori. A fost casatorit cu actrita Kim Basinger intre anii 1993 - 2002. In Martie 2004, au hotarat sa imparta custodia asupra fiicei lor, Ireland Eliesse (nascuta la 23 Octombrie 1995). La 11 Aprilie 2007, Ireland, care avea pe atunci 11 ani, nu a raspuns la un telefon dat de Baldwin, iar acesta i-a lasat un mesaj in care a insultat-o. Avocatii lui Baldwin i-au intentat apoi proces lui Basinger pentru ca a dat caseta cu mesajul respectiv site-ului TMZ.com, administrat de Harvey Levin, incalcand astfel dreptul la intimitate al copilului. Baldwin si-a cerut apoi scuze in mai multe randuri pentru ca si-a pierdut cumpatul si a declarat ca a inceput sa scrie o carte care infatiseaza problemele create de divort. Este un activist pentru drepturile animalelor si urmeaza o dieta vegetariana. Este un sustinator al organizatiei PETA, narand, printre altele, segmentul video intitulat "Meet your Meat".
