Michael Douglas s-a nascut la 25 septembrie 1944 in New Brunswick, New Jersey intr-o familie deja celebra,tatal sau fiind Kirk Douglas iar mama sa actrita de origine britanica Diana Dill.Dupa despartirea parintilor a locuit in Connecticut alaturi de mama sa si tatal vitreg,continuand insa relatia cu tatal sau pe care-l mai vizita in special in vacante.Douglas renunta la Yale si merge la University of California in Santa Barbara aratandu-si astfel dragostea pentru cinematografie;mai tarziu studiaza drama la New York.Debuteaza ca actor in 1969 cu Hail Hero si continua ca producator in filmul lui Milos Forman One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest din anul 1975 in care a jucat si Jack Nicholson.In anul 1976 se casatoreste cu Diandra Luker de care va divorta insa dupa 23 de ani.Un eveniment important pentru Michel are loc in 1984 cand a jucat impreuna cu Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone,actrita cu care avea sa se mai intalneasca pe platourile de filmare. Turner, Douglas si Danny De Vito,cu care fusese coleg de camera mai demult, se reunesc in anul urmator in The Jewel of the Nile. Compania de productii numita Stonebridge Entertainment, Inc. ,propria sa companie ia fiinta in 1988.Douglas are un alt succes in viata in 2000, cand s-a casatorit cu iubita sa de mult timp Catherine Zeta-Jones impreuna cu care are doi copii.
