Un premiu Oscar si un premiu Golden Globe.
Cu o voce autoritara, acest placut si popular actor american a devenit una dintre cele mai respecate figuri ale cinematografiei moderne. Nascut in iunie 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee, tanarul Freeman a intrat la Los Angeles Community College dupa ce lucrase cativa ani ca mecanic in aviatia americana. Primul sau rol a fost intr-o piesa de teatru in 1969. Apoi a lucrat in televiziune, avand cateva roluri in seriale. In 1973 a reusit sa obtina un mic rol in thriller-ul "Blade", iar de aici talentul sau l-a propulsat mai departe, reusind sa obtina roluri cu regularitate.
In anii '80 Morgan Freeman a continat sa apara in diferite filme, unele reusite, altele mai putin. Cu toate acestea, a iesit in evidenta, primind o nominalizare la Oscar pentru rolul din "Street Smart" in 1987 iar apoi a uimit lumea cinematografiei prin obtinerea celei de-a doua nominalizari la Oscar, pentru rolul din "Driving Miss Daisy" din 1989. Tot in 1989 a aparut in filmul "Glory" alaturi de Mattew Broderick si Denzel Washington, un film despre razboiul civil din America. In 1994 a jucat in drama "The Shawshank Redemption" rol pentru care a obtinut a treia nominalizare la Oscar dar premiul i-a revenit abia in 2005 pentru rolul din "Million Dollar Baby".
Ca o completare la filmele sale, datorita vocii sale puternice si convingatoare, Morgan Freeman a fost ales sa fie gazda mai multor emisiuni de televiziune si documentare, cel mai recent fiind "La marche de l'empereur".
A fost insurat de doua ori, prima data in 1967 cu Jeanette Bradshaw de care a divortat in 1979. A doua sotie, alaturi de care este din 1984 se numeste Myrna Colley-Lee. Are patru copii, doua fete si doi baieti. De curand a obtinut licenta de pilot privat si are o barca ancorata in Caraibe, dar programul incarcat nu-i permite sa navigheze decat o data pe an. Adeseori este catalogat ca fiind cel mai mare actor in viata, lucru pe care nu-l aproba si spune ca este doar norocos. Are propia lui companie, Revelation Entertainment.
Oscarul castigat il tine intr-un dulap din biroul sau. Dulapul a fost facut de un bun prieten al sau in 1998 special pentru Oscarul pe care era sigur ca Morgan il va castiga. I-a atasat chiar si o placa pe care scrie:" Nu parcati. Rezervat pentru Oscar".
